How to Make Homemade Pizza from Scratch…Nom Nom Nom

Do you know when you are chilling at home, watching
a TV and generally feeling very cosy? You can hear the rain outside bouncing on
the roof while you sit inside, in the warmth, enjoying the scenery outside.
Well, I’ve just had a Saturday like this about a month ago. I think it was a spur of the moment thing
or me being too cosy to go food shopping or mixture of both. I decided to
make some homemade pizza from scratch. This allows me to control what exactly goes into my pizza dough so I can make it as healthy as I can!

Are you ready to note down my pizza recipe?!

Homemade pizza dough recipe:

  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water (not boiling, just comfortable enough for you to put your hand in)
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons of active dry east
  • 3 1/2 cups of bread flour (I’ve used rise flour as it was the only one I had 🙂 but apparently if you use bread flour, the corners will be even crispier)
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 table spoons of olive oil (I always use Extra Virgin Olive Oil)

Into a bowl add  the warm water and sprinkle the east on the top. Leave for about 5 minutes to let the yeast dissolve. If it’s still not completely dissolve at the end of 5 minutes, you can stir it with a spoon. Now slowly add the flour, sugar, salt and olive oil and mix together. You can all do this in a mixer BUT I’ve read that if you do it with your hands the dough will be better. Especially if you kind of keep stretching it during the process. For the perfect homemade pizza dough, ….in about 10 minutes.

When you finish this process, sprinkle the pizza dough with a flour, cover the bowl with a towel or foil and leave it in a warm place for about an hour or two. This will allow the dough to double in size!

In the meantime, you can get ready all your pizza topping ingredients! This is the part I enjoy the most! Why? Because the imagination has no limits here! It’s your pizza, go wild, put on it whatever you like!

My pizza topping ingredients:

  • olive oil
  • homemade pesto (Check out my post on how to make homemade pesto 🙂 )
  • olives
  • anchovies
  • prosciutto
  • grated cheese
  • homegrown basil 🙂
  • homegrown chives 🙂 (thinly sliced)
  • tomato sauce
  • fresh tomatoes
  • fresh peppers
  • fresh mushrooms

I didn’t put any specific amounts here, it’s literally up to you! The majority of it is fresh and there is a reason for that. Tinned things have already less vitamins and if you bake it, there would not be many vitamins left! Plus the taste would be affected as well! And we don’t want that, do we!

Before you start working with the dough, take out two baking trays and baking paper. Spray the baking tray with a bit of water and lay the baking paper on it. The water keeps the paper sticked to the baking tray!

After the homemade pizza dough’s arisen, put it onto a cooking board. Sprinkle the cooking board with flour, so the pizza dough won’t stick to it. Split the dough into a half and make two balls of dough. Take the first one and flatten it on the cooking board (you can use rolling pin). If the dough is sticking onto your fingers/rolling pin too much, add a tiny bit a flour.

Transfer the flat dough onto a baking tray and leave it in the warm place again to let it rise a bit more – 20-30 minutes should do. Lucky me, the rain’s stopped and the sun came out so I left it next to a window, with the sun shine through it and warming up my delicious homemade pizza dough!

After the dough is ready, you can start layering all those delicious pizza topping ingredienst you’ve prepared!

My technique is to spread olive oil on the top, then tomato sauce and pesto. I always keep the corners empty to get the delicious crispy ends! WHO DOESN’T LIKE THEM?

Next is a layer of prosciutto and after that tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, basil and in this case, quarter of the pizza is with anchovies. Nom Nom Nom! Cheese on the top, finished with some delicious olives, more pesto and sprinkles of chives.

Preheat oven for 150 C and put the pizza in for about 15-20 minutes! In the meantime prepare the other pizza. Bake one pizza at the time 🙂 Always check up on your pizza so you won’t burn it!

Doesn’t it look delicious and healthy?!

 20 minutes later…Tah Daaaah!

I feel so hungry just looking at these!

Have you ever made a homemade pizza from a scratch? What’s your favourite pizza topping?
