Mode Lily: My Wedding Day Special

Oh how time flies, it seems only like yesterday when my husband, proposed to me next to a lake close to my parents house. I still remember the thrill, shock, surprise, excitement and all those feelings when you know something really good just happened and your life is going to forever change. And now? It’s been three months since the big wedding day and believe it or not, I’m still over the moon!

We’ve been together for a great 7 years. It’s been a long bumpy ride towards a good balanced relationship and we’ve both worked really hard. We love each other beyond…and we are still very much mad about each other. Over the years we’ve learnt to respect each other and live with our flaws. I find all this very important if you want to stay with someone for the rest of your lives. I feel like people forget this nowadays and cut and run as soon as they come across the first relationship hiccups. That’s why I feel extremely lucky to get a chance to spend my life with a person who is not scared to face life together.

For those of you who are new to my blog, I live in the UK although I’m originally from the beautiful country in the heart of Europe called the Czech Republic. My husband is English, we met in England so we decided to live in the UK. And because of that I thought it would only be fair to have our wedding in Czech. There was also another reason. I wanted my husband’s family and friends to see the beauty of the Czech Republic.

I adore and worship the beauty of the Czech mountains, the never ending greenery, hopping rabbits and even deer in forest. I wanted them to see everything there is to offer. I also wanted a summer wedding so we could all indulge in the almost whimsical scenery during the ceremony that would obviously happen outside. Hence I picked the loveliest venue in the middle of the mountains, an old renovated hotel where historic characteristics are riddled with modern features. My husband and I wanted a relaxed wedding with our loved ones surrounded by a magical forest and mountains, in a mischievous place where everyone could get to know each other and celebrate our love. I believe, by finding our perfect venue where during the ceremony our guests were able to have a panoramic view of the mountain backdrop, we achieved that and more.

Getting closer to our wedding I was expecting to get nervous or even stressed but I stayed calm. I remember I kept thinking: “Is this normal? Shouldn’t I feel like a pile of nerves?” You see it happening in movies, you hear it from your friends so you kind of can’t imagine a different scenario. Nevertheless I remained calm for the whole time. After the ceremony, I confided in my husband and he looked at me and said he’d felt exactly the same. I guess when you know you’re committing to the right person and there is no doubt you’re making a mistake, the peace comes to you naturally.

I do have to admit though, there was one thing I was worried sick about and that was a weather. I was obsessively hoping for a sunny ceremony outside as I just couldn’t even imagine a ceremony inside. In my mind I just would not acknowledge it. I guess I got what I wished for…times ten. On the day of our wedding, the temperatures climbed up up to 40°C!

Now, what you might not realise, months before the wedding I got asked a question. A pretty simple innocent question: “Should guys wear a full suit to the wedding?” to which I replied: “Only for the ceremony and pictures, please. Then it’s whatever you feel comfortable in.” It kind of makes sense doesn’t it? What I did not take into consideration was how hot that day was going to be! So I would like to apologise to all my male wedding guests for making them “sweat their arse off” for an hour and half! If that makes you feel any better, the skirt of my dress was huge, I would describe the feeling as “covered in a duvet in 40°C”. I had to have a shower twice during the afternoon!

You hear people saying about their wedding days that it was the best day of their lives. Do I agree? Was it the best day of my life so far? Yes and no. Why do I hear you ask? I believe the best day of my life was the day I actually met my husband. It was the day everything changed and my life was never the same.
