Travel Diary: Places to Visit in Scarborough

Travel Diary: Places to Visit in Scarborough - Harbor

Our car carried us across the British land. My body was tired & exhausted, craving for rest. It’d been really busy recently and I could feel my strength wearing off. It was slowly getting light but I could still see my tired reflection in the window. They were playing kick ass rock music on a radio, though I couldn’t hear it. I was lost in my thoughts, trying to calm down my scattered mind, I was tired but excited. We were going away, long awaited weekend break, far away from the heretic city life we were heading towards the simplicity of countryside.

I hid my yawn away from my husband and took a slow sip of my burning hot black Americano. The closer we got to Scarborough, the more excited and awake I became. Overwhelmingly excited in fact! I was looking forward to the fresh crispy air, long walks on a beach, the vast sea and the traditional British seaside.

It was my first trip to Scarborough and everything was new to me. All of a sudden I was a kid again, slowly leaving the everyday stress of adulthood behind me. We finally arrived, still early in the morning, eager to discover as many local attractions as we could, to explore the unknown beauties of Scarborough.

We did not have a target. We wondered the little streets taking pictures of just about anything, talking about our
plans together, looking for the first signs of spring in the park and crowns of trees and finding beautiful landscapes and architecture just about everywhere. Oh I do love seaside.

Walking without a goal is the most beautiful and rewarding. You do not think about it until you get there, while discovering the beauty of each step.

It wouldn’t be a seaside trip if we didn’t stop for a proper British fish and chips served with a proper cuppa…orΒ  got some cotton candy and I must not forget rocks! Oh and I must admit we did also try some of those game machines, we didn’t win anything but oh boy, did we laugh!

After our lunch we walked towards the beach. All things considered it wouldn’t be a seaside visit if you didn’t get your shoes wet and wondered about the vastness of the sea…

…and I was enjoying every breath of fresh crisp seaside air and the never ending vastness f the wonderfully calm sea.

It was a beautiful sunny day and there was so much to see. Scarborough has also its own castle and I really wanted to visit this place but it was getting late and we needed to check in.

So after all that adventure we then arrived to the place that everyone has been raving about recently…The Ox Pasture Hall Hotel (so make sure you read my review of Ox Pasture Hall hotel!) Truly stunning place that I recommend to visit. The stay at this hidden Scarborough gem, close to the North York Moors, was truly inspirational. Just look at the pictures below. This country house hotel has been restored and what a perfect place it has become.

The next day, after very generous breakfast, we set off to the North Bay beach.

It was quiet. Peaceful. Nobody was there. It was early Sunday morning after all. One gorgeous sunny Sunday morning…

Perhaps over-edited picture of the Scarborough North Bay beach, but I love it so much!

…however nothing lasts forever. Soon enough the beach had started to fill with locals and their beloved pets, dogs. In few moments we were surrounded by dogs playing with each other and it was all so peaceful, no fighting, just happy chasing. I was in my element, furiously snapping away with my camera, trying to capture the moment so I can relive the pure happiness anytime I want.

When we had enough of walking and my memory card couldn’t take it anymore, it was time for us to hide for a few moments in a local coffee shop. We had about half an hour left before we had to set off to the Sea Life Sanctuary, so we spent it by sipping on a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. I was in my own personal heaven.

If you ever visit Scarborough, please do visit the Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary. You can see all sorts of interesting sea creatures such as shark, jellyfish, tropical fish, turtles, hairy spiders and many more. I really enjoyed the sea horse selection but it was so hard to capture on camera.

What is more, there is a seal hospital, so once you’re there, don’t forget to contribute towards, every penny counts! We got really lucky (I planned the time of our excursion) and we managed to be there when they fed the already healed ones!

I have a real soft spot for Scarborough – we spent nearly all our holidays when I was a kid around that area! The sea life centre is brilliant πŸ˜€

The seaside centre was amazing, wasn't it! Yay, and they are looking after poor seals as well, such a good cause!

    Lovely pictures. πŸ™‚
I sometimes wish I lived elsewhere, but, only for a second during the rain.lol I love my little town.
When you re-visit, make sure you take a wonder to Peasholm Park, which isn't far from the sea, and also try walking past the 2p machines to the Spa and up to gardens above. There's a lovely clock tower there and great views. Plus the old Holdback Hotel site, which is not a slope, but the car park next to it has a board with fab info on it. πŸ™‚

I'm lucky enough to call it home. The castle is fantastic and in a clear day the views are fabulous. Also the cafe at the top of Olivers mount is well worth a visit. I'm sure you'll be back.
