Travel Diary: Ilfracombe Holiday Break | The Quarry House Review

I’m waking up to rainy Thursday morning, I pull the covers over my head and try to ignore the alarm going off right next to my head. Luckily I do not have to convince my other half to snooze it for five more minutes, just before the final alarm forces us to get up and finish packing the last bits and bobs.

Yes, we’re going on holiday! Not the travel-abroad-sunny-beaches kind but the going-away-for-a-long-weekend-in-the-ice-cold-England kind. And let me tell you one thing, after the whirlwind year I’ve had so far, I don’t mind at all.

It’s time to leave this city and go wild…or not šŸ˜‰

I’ve always fancied a visit to Devon as I’ve heard so many wonderful things and to be actually lucky enough to stay right next to the coast, it was a tremendous experience. As soon as we drove into the land of greenery, hills and farms, the sun appeared out of nowhere as if it was waiting for us and welcomed us to this land of never-ending greenery. All this combined provided a quiet promise of adventure and I felt like a little child again, excited to be somewhere new!

And it is absolutely charming, how life brings you wonderful opportunities if you let it and really demonstrates what makes you happy

We stayed in the most picturesque house, called The Quarry (you can book here, here and here), that I could only dream of and if you don’t mind, I’m going to dedicate this post to this truly unique place. The whole house was very chic and stylish with a very vintagey feel to it. I was full of inspiration from this beautiful and creative home that perhaps was a bit rough around the edges, but showed signs of every day life throughout. I didn’t feel like I was on holiday, I felt comfortable and at home and that’s what mattered to me the most.

7 bedrooms, outstanding views, pretty gardens, log fires, AGA, detached
vine room, sea view terrace accessed directly off a magnificent 34ft
sitting / dining room, full sky package and WIFI.

Open space living room & dining room area. Most peopleĀ these days aspire to an open-plan living space with dining room (and I’m one of them) creating a family room. To me itā€™s the ideal way to live as I want my family and friends be together but still have room to spread out doing different things.

I was especially smitten by the large book shelves. This sectionĀ of the room made me feel really homely. I loved to rummage through their book collection and secretly dream of having my own large bookcase at home.

These rental homes with perfect interior design, that display incredible style and creativity are my favourite kind.

That Chair. That god damn fabulous chair!

From the moment I sat on this chair, I was in a very weird and very strong chair-human relationship. It was perfectly comfortable and huge… I was crazy in love.

That fancy bathroom.
There are rooms we ladies appreciate the most. A bathroom is certainly one of the most important places in the house. It’s very often called a little sanctuary or a little spa at home and that is why it’s so important to re-create the perfect relaxing effect.

When I was going through my holiday pictures I just knew I had to mention this bathroom. I adored its tried-but-not-tried-too-hard aesthetic. I also loved its wooden surface pattern and the warmth it was bringing to this room. And as it should, bath – a place to rest our tired bodies after a hard day of holidaying – I liked that it provided a focal point as soon as I entered the room.

This Scandinavian style trend of interior decorating suited this bathroom particularly well. This was a calm heaven, a place with personality.

I remember not wanting to fall asleep at night, I just sat on my bed looking right out of the window, having a fantastic view of the whole town lit up. Rain drops were quietly falling down on the window and the roof, making the most peaceful noise as they landed.

I will cherish the moments we had in Ilfracombe and its surrounding area. Cliffs rising steeply from the sea offering magnificent views whichever way you look. I could feel the power of deep dark sea and all its hidden secrets and I admired the peek at luscious green countryside, and all along we were surrounded by fresh air.

Never forget to take a deep breath and enjoy moments of pure bliss.

After our little getaway to Ilfracombe, I feel rested and inspired and I wish you too find the courage to step out for a moment from that bandwagon of duty and switch off. We all need it sometimes, don’t we! You will see how amazing you will feel.
